National Institutes of Health Grant: NIH’s Research Infrastructure in Minority Institutions (RIMI) program, has announced funding to CSUSB faculty, including Mark Agars, David Chavez, and Matt Riggs. The goal of this 5-year, 4 million dollar grant is to build a center promoting research and training on health inequities found in US populations. The campus RIMI program is co-directed by Sybil Carrère (Psychology) and Bryan Haddock (Kinesiology).
National Children’s Study: CSUSB and Loma Linda University will be part of one of the 22 centers in the next phase of the largest study of child health and development ever attempted in the United States. The National Children’s Study will eventually follow a representative sample of 100,000 children from conception to age 21 – including 1,000 in San Bernardino County – seeking information to prevent and treat some of the nation’s most pressing health problems, including autism, birth defects, diabetes, heart disease and obesity. ICDFR Director Sybil Carrère is a NCS co-investigator.

Yuchin Chien was named the 2007-08 Outstanding Professor for her excellence in teaching, professional development, and service to the University.
Gloria Cowan continues as associate editor for Psychology of Women Quarterly.
James Kaufman is the new editor of the Internationl Journal of Creativity and Problem Solving. Also, Professor Kaufman has three books out this year (Applied Intelligence, Are We Free? and Essentials of Creativity Assessment).

Congratulations to Sanders McDougall, Cynthia Crawford, and Allen Butt on the 3rd-year renewal of their SCORE funding; congratulations also to the RIMI group (Sybil Carrere, David Chavez, Mark Agars, Luis Rivera, Jason Reimer, and Matt Riggs for their ongoing funding in the health disparities arena).
RIMI funding is also supporting training on our cardiovascular instrumentation for the biobehavioral lab –John Clapper, Kristy Dean and Luis Rivera will be traveling this month to Ohio State University for this weekend workshop.
Luis Rivera has been awarded the Dean’s $10,000 Summer Grant Writing Fellowship
The College named Mark Agars Outstanding Faculty member in Teaching and Instruction, and Ken Shultz the Outstanding Faculty member in Professional Growth. In addition, Luis Rivera received the College’s Faculty Initiative Award for Professional Development, and Sybil Carrere received the Faculty Initiative Award for Service.
