Geography/Environmental Science Update

James Mulvihill retired and is teaching half-time. Professor Mulvihill is engaged in economic development consulting (grant searches for non-profits and local jurisdictions), serves on the San Bernardino’s Historic Preservation Commission; and remains a member of the SB City Planning Commission; 


 Norman Meek "Starred" in the Naked Earth program "Grand Canyon" that is broadcast regularly on the National Geographic Channel. He published an article: Origin of the Arrowhead Landmark near San Bernardino, California (The California Geographer, 47, p. 27-41) and was appointed to the Governor's Alluvial Fan Task Force. This distinguished group of experts is developing guidelines and model ordinances that should control future development on alluvial fans in the southern half of the state.


Michal Kohout participated in the Historic Immigration Conference at New Mexico State University and the U.S.-Mexican Border Sustainable Development and Regional Planning Symposium


 Jeff Hackel  participated in the First Annual Global Studies Conference. The Department developed a global studies option for geography majors, so this conference was an opportunity to meet others who were doing or contemplating doing the same.


Ted McDowell organized the annual King River raft trip, which is open to all university members. Also, Professor McDowell will FERP this year.
